OPTIMOD 5700i Orban

Orban OPTIMOD 5700i

FM Audio Processor

Orban OPTIMOD 5700i audio processor

Our 5700i delivers proven OPTIMOD sound in a compact, working 1U system at an affordable price.
It provides stereo optimization, EQ, AGC, multiband compression, low IM peak limitation, stereo encoding and composite limitation - everything you need to compete in your market.

More than 20 excellent sounding, format-specific factory presets get you started. Although factory presets are completely out of the box, you can customize them with a simple LESS-MORE control with a single knob or more than 60 advanced controls whose versatility will satisfy even the most demanding sound designer.

Key Features

Independent processing for FM and digital radio

The digital and FM media processing paths divide after the 5700i's stereo amplifier and AGC. Two equalizers, multi-band compressors and peak limiters are available, allowing you to separately optimize analog and digital FM processing. The bottom line? Processing that optimizes the sound of your FM channel while delivering incredibly crisp, clean, CD-like sound to your digital channel audience.

Versatility doesn't stop at sound

If you choose to use the superb DSP-based stereo encoder and the 5700i's composite limiter, make sure they always deliver a perfectly clean, peak-restricted analog FM signal with full spectral protection of sub-carriers and RDS/RBDS regardless of the amount of composite limitation.

The 5700i includes a "loop-through classification encoder" connection. This allows an encoder with an AES3 digital input and output to be inserted between the AGC output before the analog and HD FM processing paths divide or between the audio processing output and the stereo encoder input. This keeps the audio level driving the rating encoder as high as possible, minimizing the number of "low audio level" alarms generated by the rating encoder.

For our European customers, a second generation ITU BS 412 multiplex power controller is fully compliant with the standard.

The 5700i includes a complete RBS / RBDS generator at no additional cost. The generator supports dynamic PS. It can be controlled via the 5700i presets and an ASCII terminal server that can be connected to the automation to support title and artist display.

Controllable

The front panel display includes a 2x40 character LCD and LED bar graphs showing all measurement functions of the processing frame (two or five band) in use. Measurement is always visible when adjusting the processor. Navigation is performed by dedicated buttons, soft buttons (whose functions are context-sensitive) and a large rotary knob.

Ethernet connectivity is standard, as is an easy-to-use PC remote control application running on Windows XP and later versions that can control many 5700i units over a TCP/IP network. In addition, programmable contact closure control (GPI) plus ACSII terminal control via the 5700i's RS232 and Ethernet serial ports together offer total freedom to interface the 5700i with the facility's remote control infrastructure, whatever it is. SNMP support offers another way to control and monitor the operation of the 5700i over the network.

Upgradeable

To protect your investment, the 5700i can be upgraded to full OPTIMOD 8600Si functionality via an upgrade kit purchased. With the upgrade you will benefit from Orban's advanced MX limiter technology.

Quick audio processor configuration

Like the other OPTIMODs, the 5700i provides a wizard and systematic configuration procedure.

Factory preset and LESS-MORE control

With a selection of factory presets and the simple LESS-MORE control you can easily create your own distinctive sound. Orban is happy to help you find the perfect setup for your station.

Four processing structures

The 5700i has four audio processing facilities that are optimal five-band (or "multi-band"; 20 ms delay) for consistent "processed" sound, free of unwanted side effects, five-band ultra-low latency (5 ms delay) for environments where talented monitors live off-air and oppose the optimal five-band delay, five bands with low latency (12 ms delay) and two bands for transparent sound that preserves the frequency balance of the original program material.

Control

"True Peak" The "True Peak" control is available for digital radio processing with an accuracy better than 0.5 dB. For typical program material, the accuracy is 0.2 dB.

ITU BS-412 Multiplex Power Supply Control

A switchable and program adaptive multiplex power limiter can discreetly control multiplex power according to ITU-R BS412 standards.

Low Delay DJ Monitor Output

The 5700i offers a low delay monitor output that takes audio from the output of the multi-band compressor and has an approximate delay of 4 ms. This allows the talent / DJ to comfortably monitor the processed audio off-air with headphones.

10 MHz reference input

A 10 MHz reference input allows you to lock the stereo pilot tone frequency and composite digital output sampling frequency to a 10 MHz reference signal (such as GPS), facilitating single frequency network (SFN) and near single frequency network operation (N-SFN).

RDS

The 5700i has a full-featured RDS / RBDS generator that supports static and dynamic RDS values.

Bypass test mode and tone generator

You can call up a test bypass mode locally, via remote control or automation to perform a transmission system test or to easily compare the original and processed sound. A built-in line-up sound generator makes it easy to set the level quickly and accurately.

SNMP support

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) allows you to monitor the status of your OPTIMOD and send alarm notifications via your OPTIMOD's Ethernet connection to your network.

Remote control or front panel operation

You can conveniently use and configure the 5700i audio processor using the supplied Windows PC software. Control is possible via the local network or the Internet. The 5700i can also be operated easily using the front panel and display.
